Kamissa Camara is a sub-Saharan Africa policy analyst and practitioner with 13 years of professional experience. With a sound background and track record in delivering quality and high impact technical assistance and capacity building programs geared towards civil servants and civil society, Camara funded, designed, monitored policy- shaping activities seeking to improve security, economic and IT governance in sub-Saharan Africa.


Camara recently served as Chief of Staff to the President of Mali, Minister of Digital Economy and Strategic Foresight and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mali. Prior to working with the Malian Government, Camara worked 11 years in Washington, DC where she held strategic and leadership positions with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and PartnersGlobal. At NED, Camara spearheaded a multi-million dollar program supporting civil society initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa and fragile countries in South- East Asia and the Caribbean.


From 2015 up until 2018, she was the Sub-Saharan Africa Instructor at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute where she trained U.S. diplomats before their posting in the region. She is a prolific writer and political commentator on sub-Saharan Africa’s political, security and governance challenges and victories. Camara is a native French speaker.
